Lantau Island

Lantau Island (literal translation: Ragged Head) was previously known as Tai Hai Shan, and is now home to the Tien Tan Buddha and the Po Lin Monastery. Getting to the island is easy, as there are regular buses from Hong Kong Island to Lantau. Though getting there would have been made much more fun if the cable cars were in operation. On the other side of the island is the Tai O fishing village. Food is probably as fresh as anyone can get, there were boats with live fishes and shellfishes docked at the port.

Here's a snapshot of things to be seen and done on the island.

ICE CREAM!!

Nothing better than finding this signboard on a walkabout town. Found a Ben & Jerry's outlet while searching for Lan Kwai Fong street. I think we had choc fudge...and boy, was it goooooood! There wasn't any seats, so the 4 of us just winged it and stood by the walkway enjoying the fudge. There goes the diet!

Wonder when Ben & Jerry's going to open an outlet in Malaysia...wishful thinking?

Either way, it's was set to be 5 days filled with sight seeing and shopping. And boy, were we gals all excited that we'd be visiting another country over the Christmas shopping season. Thus, the countdown begins......
